On the Road to Armageddon

Armageddon. Some place which was given a campaign a few years ago by GW. The home of the Steel Legion. The most publicised battlefield for the Blood Angels and Space Wolves which I know of at the moment. Attacked three times by two races.

The perfect campaign setting.

The choice I have made for my next project.

Armageddon will be THE Swan Song of my campaigns and mini dexes. So far I have already constructed around 15 units for the codex, but in the end there will be 50 or so... for Space Marines alone. I will have the following chapters involved:
  1. Blood Angels - Army of Death, Normal, Flesh Tearers
  2. Salamanders - Orbital Force, Normal
  3. Space Wolves - Normal, Thirteenth Company, Egil Iron Wolf
  4. Executioners - Annihilation Force
  5. Relictors - Monolith Reclamation Cadre
  6. Grey Knights - Normal
  7. Black Templars - Crusade Fleet, Grimaldus' Retinue
This is in addition to many I have not started yet, and this is simply for the Space Marines. I also have Chaos and Orks to consider, as well as Steel Legion and other Imperial Guard... alongside the actual campaign setting itself.

So Armageddon will be this year's big project. Each fortnight I will post a new part of the Campaign and each month more progress will be made towards finishing the actual book. I will have Battle Reports and such planned as well, for I know a few players who are already making forces for this.

We. Shall. See.

(PS: I'm doing World Eaters, Flesh Tearers, and the Thirteenth Company :P)

Imperial Guard stole my Baby!

(Trying to get a decent banner thingymabob planned for the blog. Just a couple of funny witty things that would make it look better than it does. Watch this space. Oh, wait, if you're looking at this you must be watching anyway! Just continue watching this space. Keeeeep watching. Still watching now? No? Yes? Purple monkey dishwasher. Meh, i'm tired of this. Just look at the damned post already!)

Imperial Guard have stolen my baby and filed for fraud with my identity. I have 5 minutes until i'm tracked to this home, so i'll have to post my final plans

I'm planning upon making a tank army, that can (almost) be used in a normal game... of Planetstrike that is. Noticed the coverage on planetstrike so far? Well, that's only because we here at BfC LOVE it!!! Why wouldn't we, it's a big pot of awesome that allows us to double the stuff we use. Nevermind the plague marines, look at my zogging tanks!

THE ARMOURED CORE:
Knight Commander Pask - this choice relies on whether he is a HQ choice or not. If he isn't, then i'm annoyed
3 Leman Russes (Squadron) - if Pask is a Heavy Support upgrade, he'd be in the first squadron of tanks. These rely upon the Lumbering Behemoth rule in order to fire as much of their stuff as possible. Only the commander has sponsons - Lascannons - in order to cut back on points and keep up effectiveness
3 Leman Russes (Squadron) - as above
3 Leman Russes (Squadron) - as above
3 Basilisks (Squadron) - these go at the back, giving fire support
3 Basilisks (Squadron) - as above
3 Basilisks (Squadron) - as above

DA SQUISHIES, HEHEHE:
Infantry Platoon: Command Squad with Standard, Medic, and Commissar. 3 Infantry Squads with Grenade Launchers. 20 Conscripts. All mounted in Chimeras where possible
Infantry Platoon: Command Squad with Standard, Medic, and Commissar. 3 Infantry Squads with Grenade Launchers. 20 Conscripts. All mounted in Chimeras where possible
Infantry Platoon: Command Squad with Standard, Medic, and Commissar. 3 Infantry Squads with Grenade Launchers. 20 Conscripts. All mounted in Chimeras where possible
Infantry Platoon: Command Squad with Standard, Medic, and Commissar. 3 Infantry Squads with Grenade Launchers. 20 Conscripts. All mounted in Chimeras where possible

Plan is to have the tanks destroy any terrain or buildings that the defenders guide behind, while the squishies rush in to fill the gaps. If there's objectives in Planetstrike, then the majority of my army can hold or contest. The guard won't be combining because of the fact that, obviously, YOU CAN'T STUFF 30 GUARDSMEN INTO A CHIMERA!!!

Anyway, thats all. The cops will be coming in 3

Herald Highlight: Apocalypse

Since Warhammer came out, many people have desired a dedicated system for large scale games. To cut this paragraph short, Apocalypse (released 2007) filled this

Apocalypse is a beautiful system, no denying that, but at the same time does it fully satisfy our needs as gamers? It's given us cheap Imperial Armour rules, given us reasons to bump up our points without bumping up our army detachments, and it's brought gamers together for the probability of immense destruction! But does it go far enough?

How Apocalyptic does Apocalypse need to be?

Well, it seems that many people have the common perception of it needing to be MORE Apocalyptic. We've all heard the rumours (note: CONFIRMED rumours) of the Planetstrike stuff, and it's obvious that on the day it's released, and the store has a mega battle on the day to test it out, that we WILL be using Apocalypse

As WELL

Planetstrike makes it 3 dimensional. Apocalypse gave us Massive Battles over the Second Dimension. Planetstrike will give us EPIC Battles over the Third Dimension

Here's some things we'll be seeing:

  • Dude, my Hydra!: We'll find people saying that, since their Hydra has an AA Mount in Apocalypse they'll also be able to shoot at the (rumoured) Attacker-Deep Strike army! Wow, your Long Barreled Autocannons are able to blow my guys to pieces? Wow!

  • Dreadclaws: We all saw the Drop Pod models from GW in October, we KNOW that they can mould a Dreadclaw, so why wouldn't they take the chance to release it as part of a Second Wave (of CSM) or even as part of Planetstrike? It's a brilliant oppurtunity to take up, no?

  • Stomp!: Oh no! My titan just deep striked right onto your tank! Shouldn't it die? Shouldn't it be able to deal a load of hits, as the Stomp! Attack in Apocalypse allows you to? Wouldn't that be brilliant?

  • Swooping Hawks: I'd love to find an upgrade that allows even more Skyleap action, wouldn't you? Or possibly even a better grenade pack anyway?

  • Thud! *Tunnel*: Oh no, I can't go straight into terrain? Can I, being a Trygon, tunnel into it? Oh, the special rules they could add to enhance existing units...

  • Deep Assault: Sure, this would definately be a step in the wrong direction, but who wouldn't love it? Give us a strategm that allows us to deep strike and then assault with our 20 man Raptor squads/20 man Khorne Berserker squads/20 man Possessed squads/etc/etc...

Hey, a blogger can dream? Right? These are perfectly reasonable interpretations for a ruleset that will allow someone to re-enact the Great Crusade (this Apocalypse battle is the initial landings of the legion...). These are perfectly reasonable interpretations the ruleset that will top even Apocalypse in it's beauty. No denying that

So Planetypse. Apocalstrike. Planetsrike is Apocalypse in a whole new way

Can't wait to see the storm strike

ARMY PLAN: Sea of Daggers

This is where we stand, brethren. We stand at a crossroads in the path of destiny, but this be no case of mere galactic destiny. This is the destiny of our race, the twilight upon which even our fading spirit is a vast sun toward. We have only 1 way to escape
We need to awake Khaine

Sea of Daggers is my latest Apocalypse army, which I will be building over the period of 6 months. It will end as a 10000 point list, which is dwarfed only by my vast collection of Chaos - I believe it is currently 10K points at the moment?

I have quite a few goals in it:
  • To have every single Eldar formation
  • To mass into 10000 points
  • To have the majority of models as plastic

Not so easy, is it? Eldar have a vast mass of datasheets and formations that I would need to take into account, and this will be difficult. No matter. Here's the list from IA: Apocalypse:

Math-Hammer: Warlords vs Chaos Part 1

A person at the Friendly Local Games-Workshop (if there is such a thing =P) began progress on a Warlord Titan a couple of weeks ago. Woop-de-Doo. Therefore, I have to question the prospects of facing it down. Thus the Theory session
Somewhere in an Anderson shelter near the midlands of England, the Nurglish Math-hammer team is on the case. What is the best DIY Warlord killer?

We have a few normal options with us today. Including:
- Melta Weapons
- Chainfists
- Power Fists

Melta Weapons:
Who can use them? Wait, wrong question. Who can't use them? Dark Eldar, Necrons, Tyranids.
The obvious point is that in order for Melta stuff to be a good strategy, you need 2 assets. You need Flank March, in order to allow you to go straight behind that titan so it can't shoot them down. The other is Careful Planning, so you can start attacking from turn 1
Key Figures in this set up happen to really actually be Vulkan He'Stan mainly. He is a definate in your melta army, allowing ALL users of Melta weaponry in your army to act as if Twin Linked. The Relic Blade he holds means that he has a chance of inflicting glancing hits himself!

10 Chaos Marines with 2 Meltaguns, and Champion with Meltabombs and Combi-Melta
This is really the best set up you can have for your chaos squads. Since you're not bound to the '1 special only, 1 heavy only' rules, you can have 2 meltaguns. Take that, Warlord. These bunch are not only a scoring unit, but if they're flank marching, they will probably melta you in the first turn! All models in this unit have the oppurtunity to at least inflict glancing hits!

10 Chaos Havocs with 4 Meltaguns, and Champion with Meltabombs and Combi-Melta
Just when I said that there was a 'best' setup, I remember that Havocs may have 5 meltaguns in a unit. Oops. Just wait until you see the next choice...

10 Chaos Chosen with 5 Meltaguns, Champion, and all with Meltabombs
Count the meltas! Not only do these lot have the ability to infiltrate or outflank on the first turn (if you choose to send them in), they have up to 5 special weapons!

Math-Hammer Verdict:
The guns have 66% chance of hitting, and variable armour penetration. Outside of 6 inches, its a 16.5% chance of GLANCING the front armour, or 33% to do ANYTHING against the rear. AP 1 means that theres a 16.5% chance again of doing anything* on a glancing hit, and a 50% chance of doing anything* when you penetrate
The bombs probably will DEFINATELY hit, unless the titan moves. But it won't, who would be crazy enough for that? On average, you will definately penetrate as the average roll will be a 7
There is a 33% chance of doing anything* on a penetrating hit
(* as in Structure Point damage)

Chosen: 1st
Marines: 2nd
Havocs: 3rd
The only reason Marines are 2nd is because they are scoring. Otherwise, the havocs are 2nd
