On the Road to Armageddon

Armageddon. Some place which was given a campaign a few years ago by GW. The home of the Steel Legion. The most publicised battlefield for the Blood Angels and Space Wolves which I know of at the moment. Attacked three times by two races.

The perfect campaign setting.

The choice I have made for my next project.

Armageddon will be THE Swan Song of my campaigns and mini dexes. So far I have already constructed around 15 units for the codex, but in the end there will be 50 or so... for Space Marines alone. I will have the following chapters involved:
  1. Blood Angels - Army of Death, Normal, Flesh Tearers
  2. Salamanders - Orbital Force, Normal
  3. Space Wolves - Normal, Thirteenth Company, Egil Iron Wolf
  4. Executioners - Annihilation Force
  5. Relictors - Monolith Reclamation Cadre
  6. Grey Knights - Normal
  7. Black Templars - Crusade Fleet, Grimaldus' Retinue
This is in addition to many I have not started yet, and this is simply for the Space Marines. I also have Chaos and Orks to consider, as well as Steel Legion and other Imperial Guard... alongside the actual campaign setting itself.

So Armageddon will be this year's big project. Each fortnight I will post a new part of the Campaign and each month more progress will be made towards finishing the actual book. I will have Battle Reports and such planned as well, for I know a few players who are already making forces for this.

We. Shall. See.

(PS: I'm doing World Eaters, Flesh Tearers, and the Thirteenth Company :P)

We plan to have Troop Choices and the Orders finished off soon enough

Beginning of the End

And the Battlefleet Chaotic Guard Coverage (BFCGC) continues into the night...

So, look at the link and you'll see a topic on how The End Is Nigh for the common 5th Ed player - that of the player who adapted 4th Ed with 5th Ed changes. So, how will you deal with it?

Monday, 27 April 2009

Oh yes...

Imperial Guard are beautiful... beautifully deadly. Unfortunately, I have some projects to finish off before I can start them en-masse. However, until then I have my true love

LAMENTERS! (eww!!!)

Well, I have a mechanised company of them to finish off. All the better to keep them out of bad lu-*ka-boom!!!*
Wow, that was a close one I was alm-*ka-boom!!!*

I've yet to decide whether there is Drop Pods or Rhinos for my army, but I know the composition of the remainder:
- Chapter Master with Honour Guard
- 6 ten man squads of Tactical Marines
- 3 ten man squads of Assault Marines
- 1 ten man squad of Devastator Marines

Well, if it's a Drop Pod army then all of them are in Drop Pods, but if it's just Rhinos? I'll be using 7 Rhinos and 1 Razorback (for the Honour Guard of course)

Herald Highlight: Planning

...a Board. Already done something on Projects, so why not? It seems far more appropriate than some of the other topics I could cover, isn't it?

I've spent far too long talking about things such as building armies and game systems yet i've never touched upon where we play with these. That's a bit foolish on my part. Before one can play they need to know about planning the board they will play on

At the moment I am planning a project on a gaming board - not a Games Workshop brand though. Here's the page it's from: http://www.giftsforgeeks.org.uk/ (or it should be, don't know at the mo, sorry). See the scenery and gaming board sections. Bunkers, segments, and GW items at a discount. Intriguing, I thought. It's also £20 a chuck when the GW board segments are £150 for 6 (or £25 a chuck). I can't afford that investment, so I instead chose this one instead

Good choice, no?

But how does one plan such a project? Thank god that this isn't a whole board in a whole piece, or it would become impossible to plan it. All one really needs to do with these sorts of segments is plan which ones they'll usually use and then work out a schedule for actually getting them! So in May i'll begin progress on a board with the first 4 x 2 board

Then, for the terrain

We all know about the Planetstrike rumours (I did a bit on combining Apocalypse with it I think) and we all know what the next army is (Imperial Guard, fool!) so what would be appropriate to get? I'm thinking something on the line of multiple bunkers and stuff like that, so that we have some defensive things to play over. I'm also thinking about getting a load of Manufactorum box sets from GW and building them into a single ruined factory, to give me something to strike onto! The Emperor protects... just not from Nuclear waste!

Anyway, this should be a fun project, and a fun plan to fulfill. I'll post in 2 weeks the progress i've made in another highlight, but until then i've got to go. Cheers for reading

~ If you want a specific topic Highlighted on, then please make a comment and i'll try to plan one out for you... wait, we plan? Anyway, see you soon. Herald

Is this the first time i've posted about some things i'll be doing in the following weeks for my army? It is, isn't it?

Well, over the next few weeks i'll be developing my Chaos Space Marine Apocalypse army, adding some new units in order to bump it up from 2 gods (Nurgle and Khorne) to 3 (Slaanesh!)

Here's my plans:

DESIGN: Lamenters or Star Phantoms (Part 2)

Lamenters or Star Phantoms?

The Star Phantoms are one of the more enigmatic chapters. They do not have a confirmed legion of origin, and have little to no background to speak of
Therefore, it was such a surprise when one of their captains, the one known as 'Captain Androcles', wounded Huron himself during an attack on the Palace of Thorns
So, the Star Phantoms are also LOYALIST during the Babab war, and are also noted as using Drop Pods during their attack on the Palace of Thorns. Therefore, I will be using a Drop Pod Assault Army. Then we shall see what happens.
Here is the Home-Cooked Chapter Tactic:
Chapter Tactic (Vital Blow): Not all Star Phantom units gain this rule - only 3 units and all the characters may use it. When the unit is mounted in a Drop Pod, they may assault on the turn that they are deep striked, a lot like Heroic Intervention. However, they may run on the turn they are Deep Striked in, and count as having Fleet of Foot

This means that they are perfect when used with the Drop Pod Assault - you pick 3 awesome units in order to assault the foe. Then, you finish them off with the slower parts of your force!
Bearing this in mind, i'm thinking of using this as my Star Phantom army:
  • Captain with Combi-Melta, Power Sword, Artificer Armour, Digital Weapons
  • 10 Sternguard Veterans with Drop Pod, Vital Blow
  • 5 Assault Terminators
  • 10 Tactical Marines with Drop Pod, Vital Blow
  • 10 Tactical Marines with Drop Pod
  • 10 Tactical Marines with Drop Pod
  • 5 Scouts with Sniper Rifles
  • 10 Vanguard Veterans with Drop Pod, Vital Blow
  • Land Speeder Storm
  • 10 Devastator Marines with Drop Pod

~ So, this is part 2 of the article. Perhaps there are two more parts - I wouldn't want the Astral Claws to feel too lonely...

DESIGN: Lamenters or Star Phantoms (Part 1)

Lamenters or Star Phantoms?

The Lamenters are a Blood Angels successor chapter, which was bred specifically to remedy for the faults in their Gene-seed. The result was extraordinary. Just not in a good way.

The Chapter suffers from severe 'Unluckiness' - dubbed 'The Lament' or simply as a curse from the Emperor. None know what caused this, only that it has led to many bad decisions and bad cases when contacted by other aspects of the Imperium:

Chapter Tactic (Unlucky): Whenever a squad with this special rule has Rolls to Wound allocated against them, add an additional D3 Strength 3 AP 4 hits against the squad

The Lamenters have no official rules... for now!

The Entire army suffers from Unlucky, making it just a matter of time before something goes wrong. Each time they are shot at, there is a 33% chance they will be hit by 3 Strength 3 hits, that will kill your Scouts 33% of the time as well. Small threat, aye? But it DOES mount up!

So the army should be fun! And it beats playing Eldar - at least we're still Marines, technically! So, here's the list plan!

  • Chapter Master on Bike, with Digital Weapons, Combi-Melta, Artificer Armour, and Power Weapon
  • 5 Assault Terminators
  • 5 Assault Terminators
  • 8 Bikers, and Attack Bike
  • 8 Bikers, and Attack Bike
  • 8 Bikers, and Attack Bike
  • 10 Vanguard Veterans
  • 3 Land Speeders
  • Whirlwind
  • Land Raider Redeemer

~This is an entirely 'Raid' based army, composed in order to emphahsise that the Lamenters were employed (it seems) entirely in fleet actions. However, as my information on them increases, the list will be re-assessed. Next up, the Star Phantoms!

Lost and the Damned Tumblr!

Its finally here: The Lost and the Damned Tumblr keeps you fully updated about what is going on in the army list!

Take the sneak peeks, the updates, and even the lists. It might not be in a neat format (PDF) or a document you can look at, but at the very least you can print it out so damned EASILY!

So check it out at:
Battlefleetlatd.tumblr.com

I might even eventually put this directly onto this page. I should warn you - the tumblr is in its first steps, so some posts may be a bit too big for it
