Army Plan: Tyrants Legion 'Babab Defense Force'

This is my intended 3 phase project.
Essentially, it goes from the unique Tyrant Legion army, to an Astral Claws force constructed with Codex: SM (well, adapted from Codex Blood Angels, for I REFUSE to pay for another codex), and finally a load of Imperial Guard 'artillery' or heavy firepower to level the foe.
The only reason I have to use the Guard for the third part of the force is because IG has the best selection of tanks, giving me a chance to drastically alter my plans with little change in the materials I need to play the force. Oh no, Hydras became more viable due to Dark Eldar? Seeing as i've not brought ANY of this, and will be buying it in sizeable chunks each month, I can change it, lol.
Anyway... Tyrant's Guard...
Organised as Unit, Wargear/Additions - Pts - Cost (£). Where 0 is indicated for the cost, i've got some decent proxies for the moment and they're not a priority.

6030pts Babab Defense Forces – Tyrant’s Guard
The Battle for the Fortress of Thorns was filled with much bloodshed, requiring constant resupply and remanoevreing to even gain a single hour’s advantage. However, with the number of troops available for the Tyrant’s use this was simple enough to work.

The Tyrant’s Guard relies on its tanks being scoring, to be honest – having 4 Tank Squadrons and 6 more Individual Tanks available for such a use, especially tanks such as the Thunderer with its Demolisher Cannon and all, makes the army quite formidable. As with the Bulwark, the Auxilia and Cohort move forward, while the next waves move and attack the enemy on contact.

Tyrants Legion Field Forces – 1805pts
Centurion – 55 – 0

Corpse Taker with 8 Servitors – 110 – 45

TOTAL - £270 + £80. 4 Months Buying, AMAP per month. Already got the Auxilia assembled... aka: regular Guardsmen. Got bits for the Corpse Takers too. :)

Astral Claws Fortress Guard – 1825pts
Captain Corien Sumatris – 165 – 0

10 TH/SS Assault Terminators – 400 – 0

ARMIES: The WIP Skyrar's Dark Wolves

A long time ago, back in June when Space Wolves was rumoured, I decided... I want a Dark Wolves army. Doesn't have to be a big one... just an army! It was then that I was hooked.

When I was at GD-UK 2009, I chose to bring a bunch of cash both for my Nurgle Sorcerer at FW and a load of those bloody Space Wolves which were released. A box of Terminators and three boxes of Space Wolf Packs. I pledged from then to get as close as possible to a full plastic army... This force would show the versatility of the kit, as well as allow for conversions.

This force is approximately 1/5 of the way to completion. The aim is to have every single character in the book shown in Plastic and Green Stuff, within the next 2 years. At the moment... i've got Njal (Power Armour) and Ragnar either WIP or 'complete' (as far as I like to call it). I've also pledged not to ruin this force by repainting a single model - if it goes wrong, I have to replace it fully, not just respray it.

So... the Wolves.

Army shots, of the current whole force.

Ragnar the Blackmaned, work in progress.

Njal the Stormcaller in Runic Armour, work in progress shot. The Back-banner was injured in action when a gale blew too hard :P

The Wolf Guard Power Armour family. I love how many options are in the kit!!!

The next notch I will be doing is the Thunderwolf Cavalry - using the only metal pieces in my force, from Fantasy battle - alongside Lord Skyrar the Grim (Logan) and Arjac the Rockfisted.

ARMIES: The WIP Emperor's Children

Alongside my Death Guard, i'm currently building out one of the more abusive builds in C: CSM... Lash Build. In this, I intend on having 6 Sorcerers of Slaanesh decked with large units of Terminators and etc to abuse both the charging and shooting opportunities this power gives a player. Alongside this will be large amounts of both Bikers and Possessed - who MAY need the help, y'know.

The idea of my Children are simply to kick the sh*t out of something. It doesn't matter whether the unit dies, as long as they kill at least 1 or 2 enemy units in the process. To this end, all of them are Enhanced Warriors with Marks of Slaanesh - this means they can take the punishment, and cost as much as regular Noise Marines for something FAR harder. While the force is WIP, it can still be played due to the legality of some of the units.

My Children could be classed both as being built to deal with Assault Wolves and Tyranids - Synapse is lashed out into the open, and units such as Blood Claws lose the charge and ultimately their lives against my Terminators and such. Sorcerers are no wussies when it comes to combat - they have Terminator Armour, so they take the punishment.

Note: Yes, the Space Wolf Terminator over there is just temporary. I just needed someone to replace my presently broken other terminator... Also, yes, those are Vanguard Veterans, since most of the time I CAN use Codex: Space Marines with these guys.

ARMIES: The WIP 'Nurgle'

Yesterday I took a few images of my Nurgle because I felt like actually having some pictures on this blog. Well, i'm a fairly bad painter (except when tired for some reason), and to put it simply... I paint to play with units. I like having new stuff to do and all, but conversions and nurglifying it up is my true passion if anything. These guys were the first d00ds to go through this process, after a disastrous attempt to build an effective Battle Company for Crimson Fists at 2000pts (note to self: need tanks)

In the game, this is literally just pure Death Guard. When playing with Codex: Chaos Legions, it's a nightmare for the opponent to try and beat this force with the amount of Feel No Pain and High Toughness they have, added to Blight Grenades. In a standard game, it's far more manageable to be perfectly honest.

Other guys who are being built and are not shown here are my Typhus (well, Second Typhus. The previous one died after 2 years of repainting and reposing him), approximately 49 Lesser Daemons of Nurgle made from Ghouls (soon to form the base of my Chaos Daemons force), and the Daemon Princes i'm building.

Nurgle Progress

Well. I've finally returned to the Death Guard... and I didn't need to buy a single damned model

Over the years i've been in the hobby, i've picked up a fair few models that I don't like. Whether it's a bad model or a bad paint job (or both :O), I will keep it

And this is when it pays off

I use them as Plague Marines. Bit of green stuff, modelled with whatever is handy (I used a knife with a small bit taken off, to allow for easier sculpting). Out of the 49 that i'm making, i've done 14 so far

But this wasn't all

I've finally used my Vindicator, from about a year ago. Large GS on it, to show Nurgle 'tri skull' symbols. Might post that eventually, lool

But hey. Thats 7 left until i've got 49 GS Plague Marines

Herald Highlight: And I looked down upon my new dominion... and I thought it good

Temptation strikes from all frontiers, being the single unseen enemy of all hobbyists. One cannot deny this, being such an overwhelmingly obvious fact. Therefore, it stands to reason that this must be crushed - inevitablility must crumble, under the stern gaze of the hearts of good, strong, men!

Out of the long words (aww!) now. That's the key fact of the hobby, which will be covered in this highlight of the hobby. The first key fact to be covered in Hobby Academy Summer 2009. A new section on the site, I believe

It's the first thing we need to overcome each and every day that we take part in the hobby. That creeping feeling at the back of our heads... calling. Planetstrike looks pretty nice. Space Marines get reinforcements - you like that, remember! Don't give in!

Thats the point of every project, work in progress, plan, or army you will do. If you fail to gain any control over your hobby... then the hobby will have the chance to gain control over you. Believe me, we've all purchased something we didn't want... some more than others... and no-one wants to go back on that road!

So look for the signs. Listen for the pains. Consult your doctor for possible side effects. Remember to take the pills. This is one enemy you must defeat, by all costs!

ARMY PLAN: Lost and the Damned

With the new Imperial Guard plastics coming out (or were you in the bar when they were put up on the GW website), i've decided that its about time that I created a LatD army again. Should be quite interesting, and it gives me a reason to finish off that damned (excuse the pun?) LatD Mini-dex i've been working on

If you've been paying attention, the following units are available in the army:
HQ
1-3 Aspiring Champions (Mandatory)
0-5 Advisors (Daemonhost, Cult Leader, Rogue Psyker)

Elites
Cultist Possessed
Big Mutants
Rabble Rousers (1 per unit of Mutants or Big Mutants)
Lesser Daemons

Troops
Traitors
Cultists
Mutants

Fast Attack
Hordes of the Gods
Chaos Defiler
Screaming Souls
Hell Riders
Traitor Recon

Heavy Support
Forsaken of the Gods
Chaos Space Marines
Traitor Tanks
Dark Mechanicus

So! What to use, what to use... Well, Traitors share the same basic profile and options of an Imperial Guardsman, only they are brought in multiples of 10 - they 'begin' as a single unit, but then get split into individual units. I'll take 3 squads of them. A single 10 of the unit becomes the command group
I'll take a Cult Leader to lead them, of course. Take a Mark - Nurgle, for the sake of the blog owner =P. Means that the traitors may take the mark as well. Marks change in LatD however, seeing as they are only for the lesser servants of the gods

Mark of Chaos Undivided (Units): Models with this mark gain the Stubborn special rule
Mark of Chaos Glorious (Characters): Models with this mark gain the Rites of Battle special rule - this means that units within 12 inches may count as their leadership for all tests requiring Leadership (this excludes Psychic tests)
Mark of Khorne: Models with this mark gain an additional point of Strength. This is applied after any other modifiers.
Mark of Nurgle: Models with this mark gain +1 to their cover saves - if they are in the open, they gain a 5+ Cover Save
Mark of Tzeentch: Models with this mark gain the Relentless special rule. However, they may not choose to use the "Run!" special rule
Mark of Slaanesh: Models with this mark gain the Fleet special rule. They must, however, use their own basic Leadership unless another model with the Mark of Slaanesh joins the squad

Let's fast forward. Here's the summary of the list i'll be building and posting on the site over the next few months:
HQ
Aspiring Champion of Chaos Glorious (Lesser Daemon Weapon, Armour of Grief, Personal Icon)
Aspiring Champion of Khorne (Power Weapon, Plasma Pistol, Personal Icon)
Rogue Psyker of Tzeentch (2 Powers, Force Weapon)
Rogue Psyker of Tzeentch (2 Powers, Force Weapon)
Cult Leader of Slaanesh (Power Weapon, Power Armour)
Cult Leader of Slaanesh (Power Weapon, Power Armour)

Troops
30 Traitors of Tzeentch (Command Group: Icon, Champion (P Wep), 2 Meltaguns. 2 Squads: Champion (Poison Weapon), Flamer, Grenade Launcher)
30 Cultists of Slaanesh (Command Group: Icon, Champion (P Wep), 2 Flamers. 2 Squads: Champion (P Wep), Flamer)
30 Cultists of Slaanesh (Command Group: Icon, Champion (P Wep), 2 Flamers. 2 Squads: Champion (P Wep), Flamer)
20 Mutants of Chaos Undivided (Firearms and CCW)
20 Mutants of Chaos Undivided (Firearms and CCW)
20 Mutants of Chaos Undivided (Firearms and CCW)
20 Mutants of Chaos Undivided (Firearms and CCW)

Elites
5 Rabble Rousers with Extra CCW Arms
3 Big Mutants with Extra CCW Arms

Fast Attack
3 Hell Riders of Khorne with Pyromancer (Power Weapon and Hunting Lance)
Defiler of Chaos

~ This is all that i'm allowed to admit at the moment - it's some things that i'll be building and finalising the rules for in April. See you then!

DESIGN: Lamenters or Star Phantoms (Part 2)

Lamenters or Star Phantoms?

The Star Phantoms are one of the more enigmatic chapters. They do not have a confirmed legion of origin, and have little to no background to speak of
Therefore, it was such a surprise when one of their captains, the one known as 'Captain Androcles', wounded Huron himself during an attack on the Palace of Thorns
So, the Star Phantoms are also LOYALIST during the Babab war, and are also noted as using Drop Pods during their attack on the Palace of Thorns. Therefore, I will be using a Drop Pod Assault Army. Then we shall see what happens.
Here is the Home-Cooked Chapter Tactic:
Chapter Tactic (Vital Blow): Not all Star Phantom units gain this rule - only 3 units and all the characters may use it. When the unit is mounted in a Drop Pod, they may assault on the turn that they are deep striked, a lot like Heroic Intervention. However, they may run on the turn they are Deep Striked in, and count as having Fleet of Foot

This means that they are perfect when used with the Drop Pod Assault - you pick 3 awesome units in order to assault the foe. Then, you finish them off with the slower parts of your force!
Bearing this in mind, i'm thinking of using this as my Star Phantom army:
  • Captain with Combi-Melta, Power Sword, Artificer Armour, Digital Weapons
  • 10 Sternguard Veterans with Drop Pod, Vital Blow
  • 5 Assault Terminators
  • 10 Tactical Marines with Drop Pod, Vital Blow
  • 10 Tactical Marines with Drop Pod
  • 10 Tactical Marines with Drop Pod
  • 5 Scouts with Sniper Rifles
  • 10 Vanguard Veterans with Drop Pod, Vital Blow
  • Land Speeder Storm
  • 10 Devastator Marines with Drop Pod

~ So, this is part 2 of the article. Perhaps there are two more parts - I wouldn't want the Astral Claws to feel too lonely...

DESIGN: Lamenters or Star Phantoms (Part 1)

Lamenters or Star Phantoms?

The Lamenters are a Blood Angels successor chapter, which was bred specifically to remedy for the faults in their Gene-seed. The result was extraordinary. Just not in a good way.

The Chapter suffers from severe 'Unluckiness' - dubbed 'The Lament' or simply as a curse from the Emperor. None know what caused this, only that it has led to many bad decisions and bad cases when contacted by other aspects of the Imperium:

Chapter Tactic (Unlucky): Whenever a squad with this special rule has Rolls to Wound allocated against them, add an additional D3 Strength 3 AP 4 hits against the squad

The Lamenters have no official rules... for now!

The Entire army suffers from Unlucky, making it just a matter of time before something goes wrong. Each time they are shot at, there is a 33% chance they will be hit by 3 Strength 3 hits, that will kill your Scouts 33% of the time as well. Small threat, aye? But it DOES mount up!

So the army should be fun! And it beats playing Eldar - at least we're still Marines, technically! So, here's the list plan!

  • Chapter Master on Bike, with Digital Weapons, Combi-Melta, Artificer Armour, and Power Weapon
  • 5 Assault Terminators
  • 5 Assault Terminators
  • 8 Bikers, and Attack Bike
  • 8 Bikers, and Attack Bike
  • 8 Bikers, and Attack Bike
  • 10 Vanguard Veterans
  • 3 Land Speeders
  • Whirlwind
  • Land Raider Redeemer

~This is an entirely 'Raid' based army, composed in order to emphahsise that the Lamenters were employed (it seems) entirely in fleet actions. However, as my information on them increases, the list will be re-assessed. Next up, the Star Phantoms!

Lost and the Damned Tumblr!

Its finally here: The Lost and the Damned Tumblr keeps you fully updated about what is going on in the army list!

Take the sneak peeks, the updates, and even the lists. It might not be in a neat format (PDF) or a document you can look at, but at the very least you can print it out so damned EASILY!

So check it out at:
Battlefleetlatd.tumblr.com

I might even eventually put this directly onto this page. I should warn you - the tumblr is in its first steps, so some posts may be a bit too big for it

Lost and the Damned

Units currently with rules written for:
  • Aspiring Champion (Pts, Rules), Daemonhosts (Pts, Rules), Rogue Psykers (Pts, Rules), Cult Leader (Pts, Rules)
  • 0-1 Big Mutants, 0-1 Rabble Rousers, 0-1 Possessed, 0-1 Forsaken
  • Mutants, Traitors, Gibbering Hordes, Coven, Cultists
  • Traitor Recon, Spawn, Defiler
  • Traitor Tanks, Marines, Marine Tanks

This means that there is about a week until I can publish a first draft. Then it goes into a first batch of testing as the Lost and the Damned players I actually know rip the characters apart. I can tell you that there is a couple of awesome rules and equipments for your characters to use, including specific weapons for your 'generic' daemons:

  • Summoning Daemons is an important concept of 1 variant of the list, the Daemon Cult list. You must have 2+ Cult Leaders and 2+ Squads of Cultists to use the list, and since these units will be big enough to sacrfice to summon the daemons, they are good choices anyway
  • Each god's daemons will have 2 to 4 pieces of equipment to use. These range from whole squad ones, or things such as the Daemonic Ark (which gives Sustained Attack to that unit ONCE) or the Kalab's Mark (Watch this Space)
  • The Greater Daemons have their own marks as well. Nurgle ones are slow but strong. The Tzeentch ones are good at shooting (Ballistic Skill 8!) while fragile. The Slaanesh ones are fast, fragile, but good at ripping even Wyches apart
  • There is no undivided daemons, however, so you will be forced to dedicate to god daemons

So, Lost and the Damned done by me. I personally can't wait. I'm so interested that in order to help with activity and ease of navigation, i'm creating a separate blog in order to distinguish for you!

Tale of Store Gamers: Chaos Part 3

Wow. Here's another update. Already - record number in a week already?
Now begins the pondering on Christmas. I've got some big pledges prepared already:
2500 Point Army
5 Chaos Knights completed
1 Giant Completed
60 models completed
1 Tournament (or 3 games) played

Currently, here is the situation:
Heroes: 3
Core: 6 Units, 54 models
Special: 2 units, 10 models
Rare: 1 Giant

Thus, in order to do this, I have the following purchases prepared:
Battle for Skull Pass (Dad fancies the Dwarves. Maybe if I trade them,
Warriors of Chaos Armybook
I also have the following Christmas gifts on the request list, from a £100 budget:
1 Giant
6 Ogres
Chaos Lord on Daemonic Steed (New)

This isn't that much, since I have other things that aren't (Warriors of) Chaos related. I have a Chaos Space Marine army to re-build, again.

"By the order of the inquisition..." - Using Imperial Guard in your Inquisition armies

The Inquisition may take either Initiate Space Marines or Imperial Guard in an army. This works in the following ways:
0-1 HQ choice - All Advisors count instead as 0-3, and Sanctioned Psykers may not be used in Malleus or Heredicus armies. Advisors and other Independant Characters may only be used in Imperial Guard units
0-1 Elite choice (0-2 if Ursakar Creed is in the army) - Ursakar Creed must take a squad of Hardened Veterans. These form up his Retinue, instead of the normal Imperial Guard rules, and only give up 1 for Creed, 1 for the Veterans, and 1 for Kell (if brought as well). Ogryns may not be taken in a Heredicus army
0-2 Troop choices (0-3 if a Deathworld army is used, or if Colonel Shaeffer is in the army) - Platoons only surrender 3 kill points. Conscripts may be taken without a Infantry Platoon in as well
0-1 Fast Attack choice (0-2 if Colonel-Commissar Gaunt is in the army) - If Gaunt is in the army, please paint the units in this as Tanith First and Only. Then you have a reason for this!
0-1 Heavy Support (0-2 if Commissar Yarrick is in the army) - HADES BREACHING DRILL. All Heavy Support counts towards Righteous Zeal
